School District 72 is committed to providing authentic Indigenous resources to support educators to critically examine their own biases, attitudes, beliefs, values, and practices in order to facilitate change within professional discourse and classroom instruction. The intended use of the resources is to demonstrate respect and value of language, heritage, culture, and ways of knowing and being of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. Integrating First Nation, Métis, and Inuit worldviews and perspectives into learning environments will enhance connectedness and relationship to oneself, family, community, and the natural world.  

The practiced use of Indigenous resources supports the district’s strategic plan through honouring Indigenous worldviews and perspectives, the TRC’s Calls to Action, the mandate of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the professional standards of British Columbia educators.
The Indigenous resource selection is guided by the First Peoples Principles of Learning.
